THE SCENARIO
The following scenario was derived purely from a Tax Calculator that was posted online by CNN:
Person A: Makes $75,000 in taxable income. According to the Tax Calculator, Person A will realize a 6% tax reduction during the first year of the new Tax Plan.
Person B: Makes $200,000 in taxable income. According to the Tax Calculator, Person B will realize a 2.5% tax reduction during the first year of the new Tax Plan.
THE SPINS
The following are true statements made by four hypothetical people having four different perspectives after they reviewed the information presented by the Scenario:
1. Person A is going to make out like a bandit and Person B is going to be screwed.
2. Person B is going to make out like a bandit and Person A is going to be screwed.
3. Person A and Person B are both going to be better off under the new Tax Plan.
4. Person A and Person B are both going to be screwed by the new Tax Plan.
You might now be saying to yourself, how can such contradictory statements be true? If you believe one is true and the others aren’t, then tell me why the statements you believe to be false are not true?
MATCH GAME
Depending on how you look at the above statements, each of them is undeniably true. Now, let’s play a little game and match the following philosophies with the statements they would most likely subscribe to:
a. Economist
b. Flat tax supporter
c. Democrat
d. Republican
