Why Some Republicans Chose to Fire Trump

Why would a substantial group of lifelong Republicans go against their Party to fire a sitting Republican President by voting for a Democrat?  Let’s start with the short and simple answer:  Country over Party.  Now, let’s explore this simple concept a bit deeper.

The United States Constitution created a Democratic Republic, which means We the People (WtP) are charged with electing People among Us to represent Our interests in the manner by which We are governed.  We elect Our representatives to the House of Representatives for two years at a time and to the Senate for six years at a time.  Separately, We elect a President of the United States (POTUS) to serve for four years at a time.  The Constitution was purposefully designed to protect this unique power that was given exclusively to WtP.

Members of the House of Representatives are elected to represent the People who reside in their Congressional District.  Members of the Senate are elected to represent the People who reside in their State.  The POTUS is elected to represent all the People of the United States, WtP.  None of the representatives in the United States Government are elected to represent a certain Political Party and certainly none are elected to represent their own interests above those of the Country.  All elected representatives, regardless of their Political Party affiliations, swear the same oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.  For this discussion, however, let’s focus specifically on the Office of the POTUS.

It is common knowledge that Donald Trump demanded oaths of loyalty to him, and only him, from anyone who worked under him in Our Executive Branch.  By demanding loyalty to Trump above loyalty to the United States and Our Constitution, Trump took control of the Republican Party and made it his very own possession.  He consistently raved about his approval ratings within the Republican Party, aka the Party of Trump, which is now under his exclusive control (I always found it interesting that he always claimed a number less than 100 percent when they were all supposed to be sworn loyal supporters).  Never did he address, or even acknowledge, the more than 50 percent who didn’t approve of the job he was doing.

Throughout the past four years, Donald Trump has repeatedly put his own interests ahead of the interests of Our Country.  By doing so, he failed to fulfill his duty to WtP, his employer, and his sworn oath to the Constitution.  Should a person fail to perform the job to which they were hired to perform, it is customary for that person to be fired from that job.  Trump’s employer, in this case WtP, have a responsibility to Ourselves to remove him from the position in which he failed Us.

While it may be tempting to re-elect a POTUS whose personal desires just so happen to match Our own desires better than the opposing candidate, it is not an appropriate or sustainable way to operate a functioning Democratic Republic.  If we are to keep control of Our Country, then there must be consequences for those who attempt to put their own interests, even when they may match Our own interests, above the interests of Our Country.  Without consequences, We will lose all that We have worked so hard to have.

We the People to Donald J. Trump, because you blatantly chose to continuously place your own interests above those of Our Country, in your own words, “You’re fired!”  You hereby have 72 days to pack your belongings and vacate Our House.
